Obligatory 2016 Retrospective

I feel it is time to post a retrospective on the past year, which will be interesting to write because my laptop keyboard is currently not working (I spilled hot cocoa on it last week) so I am using the touchscreen keyboard. I'm not a huge fan of this method of typing, so I may be less verbose than usual.

My goals for 2016 included re-joining the Historical Sew Monthly sew-along, which I managed to stay with for a whole three months! :p  I successfully completed the Procrastination, Tucks & Pleating, and Protection challenges.  I also planned to branch out into a couple of new eras, to add variety to my Regency-heavy historical wardrobe.  In this goal I was very successful!

I've broken down my 2016 work into the following categories: Finished, Made Start-to-Finish, Re-made, Unfinished, and Commissions.  I've put links to all of the posts I've done on my projects, but several of them have not been blogged yet.

Finished - These are all items that I had started in the previous year, or - in the case of the Floral Underpetticoat - several years previously:

Regency Stays

Made Start-to-Finish - pretty self-explanatory. I started these projects in 2016 and actually completed them:

new Bum Pad

Pink & Purple Knit Dress

Floral Chiffon Tunic Dress & Navy Underdress

Remade - These are items that I purchased second-hand, and up-cycled:

Unfinished - I started these projects but have not completed them yet:

Brown Fedora - another remake in progress

2 teal rayon blouses - part of my 1940s wardrobe

Commissions - These are the garments I custom-made for clients in the past year:

Bucky Jacket

All in all, I completed a total of:

  • 8 18th Century garments
  • 7 Regency items
  • 1 Civil War dress
  • 1 1910s ensemble
  • 1 1920s hat
  • 3 1940s dresses
  • 1 1960s dress
  • 2 1970s dresses
  • 5 modern garments

So I definitely got out of my Regency comfort zone! I mean, I still made plenty of Regency things, but I also made three times as many non-Regency items! I broke into the 20th Century finally, as well as making my first Civil War dress and 18th Century formal wear.  Not too shabby. :)

Another thing I realized while putting this review together is that I have quite a few projects and events from the last year that are, as yet, unblogged. I must fix that.

  1. Wow! You've been busy this post year! I can't decide what is my favorite... Everything you did looks so fabulous!! I must say that I do love your suffragette outfit! Had I been thinking, I would have worn mine to vote in! Your pink mantle and star spangled halter dress were really fabulous as well! Everything was!! Can't wait to see what this coming year brings!
    Blessings!

    1. Thanks! I really enjoyed doing this year-in-review post much more than I thought I would. It's always fun to see how much I DID accomplish in the course of a year. It's hard for me to pick a favorite, too, but I would probably say the Star-Spangled Halter dress was the most fun to wear!
