Regency Capsule Wardrobe - Look Number Four

Whoo boy, it's been a while! I never finished my blog series about the England trip I went on in *checks notes* June of 2019... So let's do a quick recap before we dive back in, shall we? 

First there was all the wardrobe planning and sewing. I ended up with a rather versatile capsule wardrobe that I'm still pretty proud of! 

I brought along two dresses, two petticoats, two sleeveless spencers, one long-sleeved spencer jacket, three bonnets, three shawls, and three pairs of shoes. Also two shifts, two pairs of stays, and four pairs of stockings. From this assortment of pieces (and with washing my shifts so I always had a fresh one), I was able to get five full days of dressing up in Regency without ever repeating an outfit! For Day Four of the RSV England Trip, I went for a very pink ensemble with splashes of green. I wore my Sheer Striped Gown over my Pink Bodiced Petticoat and my Ruff and Chemisette, topping it all off with the same Pink Silk Spencer as the day before. 

I accessorized with the same straw bonnet as Day One - with a green ribbon tacked on in place of the yellow one - a sheer green paisley shawl, pink stockings and pink shoes.

I really liked the contrast of the green accessories with the pink ensemble. I'll have to play with that combo more in the future. I also love how the pink bodiced petticoat shines through the sheer dress when the sunlight hits in, like in the above photos. I probably won't ever wear those shoes again, at least not for all-day use! They pinch my toes pretty badly. But darn it, they're cute! 

Regency Capsule Wardrobe - Look Number Three

For Day Three I re-wore my Black & Ivory Dress from Day One with new accessories.  Since we would be down at the sea shore, I knew that it would be 10-15 degrees cooler than it was inland, so I paired my long-sleeved dress with my Pink Silk Spencer.  

I'll start with the gorgeous edits of my pictures from The Cobb done by Gloria of In The Long Run Designs:  

In addition to editing out the photobombing tourist in the background, she also gave me some options where she played with the color to give cool effects!  

I can't decide which version I like better:  

I accessorized with a plain straw bonnet that I stitched some ribbon onto for a bit of flair, my favorite neckerchief from Burnley & Trowbrige, and jade earrings that my husband bought for me in Japan:

I also wore my yellow painted Hartfield boots from American Duchess, and carried my Striped Reticule.  

Oh, I also have to mention these divine lavender silk stockings from Penny River that I bought at Fort Frederick Market Fair last April:  

They are so comfortable, and look at that sheen!  These are my favorite stockings ever. 

Back at the house that evening, I got some photos taken of me to both showcase the dress and the beautiful location:  

For indoors, I swapped my bonnet for a cap.  

I love how the kerchief mimics the diagonal lines of my dress bodice in the back!

And of course the sonic screwdriver had to come out:  

This was probably the most comfortable ensemble of the entire trip.  

Regency Capsule Wardrobe - Look Number Two

On Day Two of our Jane Austen tour, I wore my new Sleeveless Summer Spencer and White Striped Petticoat: 

The petticoat fabric is from Burnley & Trowbridge

I accessorized with my Green Straw Bonnet, aquamarine earrings from Dames a la Mode, green vintage gloves, a blue wool shawl, blue cotton stockings, and brown Dashwood shoes from American Duchess.  I brought along my green dyed fan in my reticule, but it never got warm enough to use it.  Bah.

The shawl actually ended up being pretty essential, as it was a typical English summer day!  😆

These flowers were beautiful, though.  This was at Sydney Gardens.

The garden at the Jane Austen House Museum:  

I just kept finding flowers to pose with!  I have to say, the English do love their gardens.  This was a park in Winchester:

I did make the petticoat a few inches too long, and it sadly dragged on the ground and got wet and muddy from the rain.  This was especially unfortunate, as I was planning to wear it again later that week!  I was able to wash it, but I couldn't get all of the dirt out of the back hem.  :(  I got it passable enough to wear again that Saturday, and I plan to shorten it before I wear it again.
